Reporting to the Director of Advancement Services, the Prospect Research Analyst manages all aspects of donor and prospect research for Ave Maria University’s Office of Advancement. In this capacity, the prospect researcher extracts information from in-house and external sources to support Executive Leadership and Individual Gift Officers in performing their duties. This will be accomplished by providing comprehensive research on individual, foundation, and corporate major gift donors and prospects. The Prospect Research Analyst will also report on responsibilities and initiatives related to the overall support of the University’s prospect management and strategy development program.

1. Manage a comprehensive, proactive, and reactive research program helping to identify and qualify individuals in preparation for cultivation and solicitation.

2. Work within the university-wide prospect management system to support designing and executing strategies to manage and grow the size and value of the prospect pool as well as to assign prospects and donors to respective executive leadership and individual gift officers.


3. Utilizing electronic sources and in-house files, prepare reports, profiles, and prospect lists to be used by gift officers and executive leadership.


4. Participate in prospect management team meetings, led by the Director of Advancement Services, for determining priorities of tasks, reviewing work, and delegating responsibility.


5. Develop strategies for identifying new prospects


6. Interpret, evaluate and synthesize biographical and financial information on donors and prospects.


7. Develop and maintain systems and procedures that establish and maintain standards of quality, accuracy, and timeliness for prospect research.


8. Prepare research reports, project summaries and solicitation information and other database extractions as required.


EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree


EXPERIENCE: 2 to 4 years in prospect research utilizing research tools common in the field.





  • Ability to theorize and develop proactive prospecting processes to support organizational goals, including data mining, and constituent database queries.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of basic computer software packages
  • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge software, Target Analytics, and LexisNexis and demonstrated ability in extracting data/reports preferred using Excel.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of wealth indicators, electronic research tools, fundraising terms and processes.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data from multiple sources.
  • Proficient in business writing.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Depending on the assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or ability to stand, walk, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 – 50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read technical information.


WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to electronics work. May periodically travel to satellite sites.
